What to Expect at Your Newborn Photoshoot in St. Ives

Bringing a new baby into the world is magical — and those early days go by in the blink of an eye. A newborn photoshoot is the perfect way to freeze this fleeting moment in time and capture your baby’s earliest expressions, tiny features, and growing bond with your family.

If you’re thinking of booking a session (or have one coming up!), here’s what to expect at your newborn photoshoot with Dinky Little Dot Photography in St. Ives.

When Should You Book a Newborn Photoshoot?

Ideally, newborn sessions take place within the first 5–14 days of life. This is when your baby is still very sleepy and curly — perfect for those adorable, womb-like poses.

However, don’t worry if your baby is a little older! I regularly photograph babies up to 6 weeks old and adjust the session to suit your little one’s comfort and developmental stage.

To ensure flexibility around your due date, I only book 10 newborns per month — so it’s best to reserve your spot while you’re still pregnant.

What Happens During the Session?

Newborn sessions take place in my warm, calm and cosy studio, designed specifically for babies and new parents. Each session lasts around 2–3 hours, giving plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and snuggles.

I’ll gently pose your baby on a soft beanbag and in props, using safe, baby-led techniques. We’ll follow your baby’s pace, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.

You’ll be able to choose from a selection of beautiful wraps, outfits, and props to suit your style — whether you prefer soft neutrals, earthy tones or a subtle pop of colour.

Can Parents and Siblings Join In?

Absolutely! Family photos are always included. These images of you holding your baby — the tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the sleepy cuddles — are often the most emotional and meaningful.

Siblings are welcome too, and we’ll work around their energy and schedule to make it fun for them.

Got a family pet? Let me know in advance, and we’ll chat about including them safely too!

What Should You Bring?

I provide everything needed for the session, but here are a few helpful items:

• Extra nappies, wipes and milk

• A spare top for parents (just in case of baby mess!)

• Any personal items you’d love to include (e.g. a knitted blanket or special teddy)

After the Photoshoot

At the end of your session, we’ll arrange a viewing appointment back at the studio in 1-2 weeks after your photoshoot. This is when you’ll get to see your full gallery and choose your favourite images.

We’ll watch you slideshow, design your wall art and create beautiful gifts for your family. I also offer 0% interest payment plans to help make your favourites more affordable.
